Can Organic Amendments Improve Soil Physical Characteristics and Increase Maize Performances in Contrasting Soil Water Regimes?

چکیده
Organic amendments are believed to help increase the soil carbon storage and therefore improve quality, which may be important in context of climate change. However, added value organic for farmers must clearly demonstrated order convince them utility their use. The aims this study were: (i) investigate impact on maize compost vermicompost combined with two levels (negligible significant) plant water stress; (ii) determine how affected soil’s physical properties productivity. Water stress were imposed by controlling matric potential columns cultivated characteristics was mimicked (10 cm topsoil amendments, above a 50 subsoil without any inputs containing majority roots). Plant monitored daily 70 days. Our results show that use is profitable as: performances increased both moisture regimes; improvement particularly striking terms yield. No additional benefits measured when using instead compost. data suggest did not result from soils but rather better access water, resulting faster root development macroporosity amended soils.

متن کاملOrganic and inorganic nitrogen amendments to soil as nematode suppressants.
Inorganic fertilizers containing ammoniacal nitrogen or formulations releasing this form of N in the soil are most effective for suppressing nematode populations. Anhydrous ammonia has been shown to reduce soil populations of Tylenchorhynchus claytoni, Helicotylenchus dihystera, and Heterodera glycines. The rates required to obtain significant suppression of nematode populations are generally i...

Introduction Based on the interest among organic farmers in Iowa for an unbiased analysis of the many natural soil amendment/fertilizer and compost products on the market for certified organic vegetable and herb crop production, several experiments have been conducted (Delate 1999). According to the USDA Economic Research Service, statistics on organic production in the U.S. lag far behind thos...
متن کاملAssessing Relation of Soil Hydrophobicity and Soil Water Content and Determining Threshold Moisture of Organic Soil Samples
Soil water content is the most effective factor associated with the hydrophobic and hydrophilic changes in a soil. Water repellency in soils, is not a permanent feature; it can be reached in the dry season and reduced or eliminated in the wet season It can be said that in terms of moisture, there is a critical region that is defined as the threshold moisture content, where in lower moisture, th...
